As part of the Dubai World Cup Night of races, the Dubai World Cup is the world’s richest single horse race with a purse of $10 million.
Held annually since 1996 the race was the brainchild of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai to celebrate his love of horses and horse racing.
The first race was won by American ‘wonder horse’ Cigar, and helped put the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the map. The Dubai World Cup is now one of the world’s top racing challenges, and has drawn the attention of millions of horse racing enthusiasts around the globe.
No horse has ever won this race more than once and it is held each year in March at the Meydan Racecourse in the city of Dubai.
