The Preakness Stakes is the second leg of American thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown series and usually attracts many of the horses and the winner of the earlier Kentucky Derby.
Held on the third Saturday in May each year at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, the 2012 Preakness Stakes is the 137th running of the race.
The race is also know as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans” after the state flower of Maryland which are draped in a garland around the neck of the winning horse.
